A Tiffany serving dish and cover
Maurizio Perota submits a Tiffany serving dish (or entrée dish) with
domed cover richly engraved with floral motifs.
The set has a monogram and the date 1921 on the sides of the cover and a
dedication on the bottom of the dish:
From
Ruth & Lyon
Nov. 12, 1921
It weighs 39 oz (1100 gr.) and is 13 in. (cm. 33) in diameter. The
dish is marked Tiffany & Co, # 37350 and W (?), while the cover is
unmarked
There are some oddities on this set as:
- the cover fits perfectly for engravings and measures to the dish but
is unmarked
- Tiffany mark on the dish looks to be restruck and has another faint
mark under it. The letter 'W' is very similar to letter 'M' (but
upside-down) used by Tiffany between 1947 and 1956 and referred to the
directorship of Louis deBebian Moore (until the mid 1960's Tiffany
marked each piece with the initial of the Artistic Director or President
of the firm).
I'm unable to resolve this small mystery and any help by members well
accustomed with Tiffany silver would be greatly appreciated
